Despite being without a number of first team regulars Birmingham travelled to Arsenal and put in an excellent performance against the league leaders. Arsenal went 1 - 0 up after 13 minutes when Jayne Ludlow scored from a corner. Birmingham did not let their heads drop and created chances of their own. In the second half Birmingham continued to contain Arsenal as well as continuing to create chances. However in the 79th minute Arsenal went 2 - 0 up when Lianne Sanderson  hit a fierce shot past Sue Woods in the Birmingham goal. In the second minute of injury time Lianne Sanderson  scored her second goal when Sue Woods who had made some excellent saves failed to hold onto another fierce shot. Birmingham were not out classed and can take plenty of positive points into the return game on Thursday at Redditch 7:45 kick off.
